Southwest Ambulance was founded in 1982 by Bob Ramsey and was the first private ambulance service in Arizona to contract with a municipality as the sole provider of 9-1-1 services.
In 1997, Southwest Ambulance merged with Rural/Metro Corporation. Together, our company is the second largest private ambulance service in the United States serving more than 400 communities, and is the largest ambulance provider in Arizona serving more than 40 communities with emergent and non-emergent medical care and transportation. Southwest Ambulance and Rural/Metro Corporation are certificated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and possess nine Certificates of Necessity (CON) to provide emergency medical transportation in Central and Southern Arizona.
Southwest Ambulance has more than 1200 employees and 300 ambulances based out of approximately 70 stations in Maricopa, Pinal, Pima and Graham counties. Our ambulances and crews respond to more than 225,000 calls for assistance annually.
Our dedication to providing Inspired Care is demonstrated through our commitment to clinical excellence and superb response times. From emergency 9-1-1 calls and non-emergency transports to specialized medical teams providing Critical Care services, Southwest Ambulance has the experience and clinical expertise to provide patients and customers with the right service at the right time.
